The search is officially underway for a new superintendent for the Bettendorf schools. The board of education has hired a consultant to help, and last week approved the search process.
Board president Adam Holland says through next Monday (Nov. 18), district residents can participate in a survey, giving their suggestions as to what qualities the new superintendent should have. His list includes being a good communicator, understanding how technology is now being used in education, and a person who’s careful with money.
"How can we balance the wants and needs to be able to provide the best tools and facilities for our students and faculty, while still being a good steward to the taxpayers."
The consultant is Ray and Associates, from Cedar Rapids, a firm that’s helped some other Iowa districts, and currently is helping fill positions in Illinois, Michigan, Florida, Arizona, and Hawaii.
By the end of this month, the Bettendorf school board is scheduled to finalize its “profile” of the new superintendent, with applications due in early January. A final decision could be made by sometime in February.
