Even though its first local performances will be held this weekend, Ballet Quad Cities kicked off its season nearly three weeks ago. The dance company's new season includes three productions with Orchestra Iowa. And the first was held on the lawn at Brucemore Mansion in Cedar Rapids.
Joedy (JOE-dee) Cook, Executive Director of Ballet Quad Cities, says "Dracula" will open tonight (fri) at a new venue for the company, the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Moline.
Next month, the ballet will sponsor "Bowling to Banish Bullying," a fundraiser for its elementary school program that includes performances of "The Ugly Duckling" in February. Then, Cook says December will include four performances of "The Nutcracker" with Orchestra Iowa.
Next April, the Cedar Rapids-based orchestra will also present Prokofiev's "Cinderella" with Ballet Quad Cities. It's the only professional ballet company between Chicago and Kansas City, with 13 dancers and four other employees. And over the summer, it hired a development director for the first time.
Guest artist, Domingo Rubio, will dance the role of "the count" in this weekend's performances of "Dracula." They'll be held tonight and Saturday night at 7:30 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in Moline.
