Augustana Will Play Football in Italy

FIDAF

The Augustana College football team will play "on the road" this weekend - in Italy. The team leaves Tuesday for a two week trip that'll include two games next Sunday (5/29) against Italian teams, in Bologna.

Head Coach, Steve Bell, says 120 people are making the trip, including 64 players, coaches, trainers, and parents. The main value of the trip is educational - with stops and tours in Rome, Bologna, Venice, and Milan.
Arrangements for the trip to Italy were made through a company called American Football Worldwide, run by Jim Barnes who coached the Augustana football team for 11 seasons, from 2000 through 2010.

This will be the 6th international trip for the Vikings since they first went overseas in 1999 to Sweden and Finland. Since then the team has visited and played in Italy, Austria, and France.
The team returns to the US on June 3rd.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
