Augustana College Remodeling Carver Center

Augustana College will remodel part of a building most of its athletes use.

Augustana College plans to spend $300,000 on the Carver P.E. Center's weight and training room. More than 700 students from 25 sports use the strength center.

Dave Wrath, Associate Director of Athletics, says it's 14 years old and needs an update.

"Times change and things need to improve, so we've never really have done any improvements on it. So we felt that this was a good time to make the move, try to raise the money to refurbish, and enhance the experience for our student athletes."

Augustana has received about $120,000 in donations, about one third of the total cost.

"We will start the project when we get the money in hand. What we went through up until yesterday was our quiet phase. Now when we made our announcement yesterday and put the stuff on our website, we would say that is more of our public phase. So hopefully things will move very quickly."

The project will include new weight machines, flooring, and layout. Wrath hopes the project will begin by the end of this school year.
