This weekend, local college students will march for women's and minority rights. About 50 Augustana students and faculty will participate in the Women's March on Washington, D.C.

Sam Dunklau reports it's a three day trip.

In just two weeks, student organizers raised almost all of the money needed to rent a bus to go to the nation's capitol. Sophomore Carli Schwanebeck is in charge.

Schwanebeck has been passionate about feminism since high school,  when she learned more about the issues that affect women.

"I think it's was just having conversations with other women and other minority groups, and becoming aware of the things that are happening in our society. As soon as you start talking about those things, you're able to see it around you."

The students going to the march hope to send a clear message to the Trump administration: women's rights cannot be ignored.

The Augustana group will leave campus on Friday afternoon and will arrive in Washington the next morning. They'll participate in the one-and-a-half mile march from the Capitol to the White House, followed by a student rally later in the day.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
