Arconic Workers Pack Holiday Food Baskets

Arconic

Continuing a tradition that started 70 years ago, workers at the Arconic plant will pack Christmas food baskets for needy local families. Thursday afternoon they'll prepare about 600, for families nominated by employees and selected by an employee committee.

Because of the pandemic, a smaller number of people will do the work this year at the Arconic Learning Center, formerly the Riverdale elementary school, and it should take about three hours.
Each year since it began in 1950, hourly and salaried workers at Arconic raise money for the Christmas food baskets - with contributions, special fundraisers, and recycling beverage cans .And this year they raised nearly 18,000 dollars.
The baskets will be delivered to needy families on Friday.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
