Soldiers and civilians in the Quad Cities shared a moment of silence today to honor Americans who lost their lives on 9/11. The Rock Island Arsenal held a remembrance ceremony on the thirteenth anniversary of the attacks.
Attendees gathered around the Arsenal 9/11 Memorial, two small towers that symbolize the Twin Towers that were struck. They paid tribute to them through prayer and song. Gerene Phillips-Harden and Evelyn Bamar, local residents, sang the National Anthem.
Col. William Krahling, Commander of the Distribution Management Center, recognized over 30 soldiers from the Quad Cities, who died while serving in the war in Iraq, plus 75 who have died since last September.
"Remembrance ceremonies like this symbolize the commitment that we have for those that are still serving, but also think about and be able to talk about those friend and family members that we may have lost either during the attack or lost during the past 13 years. For all those generations that didn't experience that tragic event, it's important to remind them why. "
Over 3,000 Americans died on September 11th, 2001.
