24th Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

At least 100,000 pounds of food - that's the goal this Saturday for the Quad Cities Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Letter carriers go door to door each year for the country's largest food drive to collect non-perishable items.

This year in the Quad Cities, the AFL-CIO, United Way, River Bend Food Bank, and National Association of Letter Carriers are working together.

Joshua Schipp, from the AFL-CIO, says every day, 1 in 8 Quad Cities residents go hungry, and 1 in 5 of those are children.

This is the 24th annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive, and donations total 1.4 billion pounds nationwide.

Schipp says letter carriers will put 122,000 yellow grocery bags in mailboxes across the Quad Cities. Residents can fill them with food then leave them outside on Saturday morning.

Carriers pick up food, sort, and send to River Bend, which is then distributed throughout the Quad Cities

The food drive also needs volunteers on Saturday morning and afternoon to help pick up and sort food at local post offices. Food can be placed outside around 8 am.

To volunteer, you can contact Joshua Schipp at (309) 738-6536 or email jschipp@unitedway.org.
