1,300 Volunteers to Clean QC Waterways

Xstream Cleanup

Thousands of volunteers dedicate one day each year to cleaning up waterways in the Quad Cities. Tomorrow, 13-hundred volunteers will pick up trash at several locations, for the 12th annual Xstream Cleanup.
Event organizer, Brandy Welvaert, says volunteers have cleaned up 950,000 pounds of trash over the past 12 years.
This year, volunteers will work at 35 locations, including the Nahant Marsh, Living Lands and Waters Tree Nursery, and Lincoln Park in Rock Island. Welvaert says people can choose either heavy or light-duty clean-up.

And in recent years, more volunteers have been needed to remove invasive species.

Welvaert says about 100 volunteers are still needed for the Xstream Cleanup tomorrow, from 8:30 to 11:30 am. No experience is necessary, and supplies will be provided.
