SAL Community Services is receiving $13 million in grants to support its child care services. SAL is a nonprofit that offers various programs designed to support families and early childhood education in the Quad Cities and central Illinois.
Director of Development at SAL Community Services, Amber Wood, says the grant will improve the community. “The investment in early childhood is such a critical space to help our youth be prepared for when they enter school and beyond.”
The funding comes from federal and state grants. SAL intends to use the grants towards various programs including the Home Child Care Network, Prevention Initiative, Early Head Start Child Care Partnership and Home Visiting Expansion Program. The grants will support in-home child care, early childhood education, training for childcare professionals, and specialized services for immigrant families.
SAL is selected to participate in Illinois' Smart Start Early Childhood Apprenticeship Program. This hands-on training program will give early childhood educators the skills and knowledge they need.
