Last Saturday's "Branching Out Dubuque" kickoff

This Saturday, August 24th, Dubuque is hosting a tree plating initiative starting at 9 a.m. More than 30 trees will be planted around the Lower Bee Branch at 16th Street Detention Basin.

There are multiple different kinds of trees being planted, including crab apples, native oaks, American elms, and more.

Laurana Synder, the environmental justice tree coordinator for the City of Dubuque, says that trees will not only help the city but the people, too. "Any time you can get a tree in the ground I think it just improves neighborhoods and improves people's lives."

The trees will increase the city’s tree shade by 40%, help contain stormwater, and are a part of Dubuque’s climate action plan.
