The Rock Island Downtown Alliance and Quad Cities Cultural Trust is hosting the start of the Alternating Currents Festival this Thursday, August 15th, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Schwiebert Riverfront Park.
The family-friendly festival includes OneSound Piano Project community painting, interactive exhibits on the Quad City Botanical Center's Plant Discovery Bus and live music.
Parking is free for attendees at the city-leased lot at 101 17th Street between Arts Alley and Schwiebert Riverfront Park. The festival is employing bicycle taxis for free rides between downtown businesses and participating venues.
The organization started by Downtown Davenport Partnership (DDP), a division of the Quad Cities Chamber back in 2017 is suggesting attendees bring lawn chairs to enjoy the performances.
The evening festival ends at Theo's Java Café where the coffee shop is hosting an after-party set by Justin Golden from 9 to 10 p.m.
The festival continues Friday, Saturday and Sunday at various QC venues with more live performances and family-friendly events.
