Scott County Sex Offender Checks

Most of the registered sex offenders in Scott County are obeying the rules about where they can live and what information should be provided to law enforcement. Since July 1st, the Sex Offender Task Force has conducted 600 compliance checks, including 240 over the weekend.

Sergeant Josh Wall, from the Scott County Sheriff's Department, says the compliance rate this year is 94 per cent, which is about average in recent years.

"Which means that they're giving us the proper information of what address that they're at, also who would be living with them. And there's some other things like vehicles and phone numbers and stuff like that that we ask to make sure that everything's correct."

Scott County now has 493 registered sex offenders.

Iowa divides sex offenders into three tiers, based on how much risk they represent, and those convicted of an offense involving children cannot live within 2,000 feet of a school or day care center.

Six people were arrested during the weekend checks for not complying with the registration rules.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
