Augustana Updates On Fundraising

Augustana College

Augustana College will give the community an update about its big fundraiser, which kicked off a year ago.

It's called "Augustana Now" and the goal is 125 million dollars. After the private phase, college officials visited alumni and supporters across the country. 100 million dollars have been pledged so far.

Augustana will spend the money on affordability, preparation for graduates, innovation, and a renewed commitment to diversity.

Around 80 million dollars will go into the college's endowment. Spokesman Sam Schlouch says that the goal is to give more students endowed scholarships.

"Augustana provides financial assistance to 99% of students that enrolled at the college, and that will continue into the future," said Schouch. "The goal is to continue to increase those awards, so that way we can make Augustana affordable to any student that meets the qualifications and would be a great fit here on Augustana campus."
With a sticker price of more than 43,000 for tuition and nearly 11,000 for room and board, improving affordability is Augustana's top priority.

Thursday, October 10th, about 200 people will attend a reception to learn about the campaign, and hear about new buildings and programs.

Dr. Kimberly Murphy, a biology professor, will give details on the upcoming Kineseology program and construction of the Knowlton Center for Health and Wellness. Men's Basketball Coach Grey Giovanine will be the keynote speaker.

The Augustana Now campaign is also paying for the expansion of two existing campus buildings and renovating the Bergendoff Hall of Fine Arts.

I'm currently a Senior at Augustana College, working on majors in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication and Communication Studies. In addition to interning at the station, I also work for the Augustana Observer, the college's official student newspaper, as a writer for the Arts and Entertainment section.
