The search is over for now for the body of a Galesburg man who drowned in the Mississippi River in Moline Tuesday night. Crews have suspended their recovery efforts for 25 year old Malik Williams.

Police were called to the 5400 block of River Drive, along the Ben Butterworth Parkway Tuesday night after a 6 year old boy fell into the river while fishing, and his father tried to save him.

A man who was driving nearby, Van Thang, heard screams from the river bank, stopped his car, and jumped in the water to save the child. But he was not able to make it further out into the Mississippi to help Williams.

Police and fire crews searched for several hours Tuesday night, then resumed Wednesday morning, but with no luck.
