Buffalo Elementary May Get 3D Printers and Robots

Creative Learning Systems

Students at Buffalo Elementary School might be working with 3D Printers and other technology next year. Tonight, the Davenport School Board will consider a proposal to build a SmartLab at the school.

The lab would give students hands-on access to technology ranging from robots to 3D printers. Students would work in groups on projects that include Lego engineering and video production. The lab would have room for about 30 children at one time.

Buffalo Elementary Principal Heidi Gilliland says the lab would let students work with the latest technology and provide them with a unique education.

According to the proposal, lab setup and staff training would begin in June. The lab would be ready by the first day of school in August and would cost the district about $131,000.

I am currently a senior at Augustana College, majoring in Multimedia Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Creative Writing. I serve as the General Manager for WAUG.fm, Augustana's online student radio station and have worked as an intern and DJ at Studstill Media Group. I report on local news for WVIK and am honored and excited to be a part of the news team. I hope to pursue a career in radio broadcasting and an eventual master's degree in English or Communications.
