Group Encourages Food Donation, Not Waste

Food Rescue Partnership QC

Individuals and organizations in the Quad Cities are working together to "feed people, not landfills." They call it a Food Rescue Partnership, and tomorrow, they'll teach residents and restaurant owners to donate food, instead of throwing it away.

Pete Vogel is an IT Analyst at John Deere, and the Food Rescue Partnership board chair. He says forty-percent of food produced in the United States is thrown away without being touched.
The partnership also includes officials from the River Bend Food bank, Outback Steakhouse in Davenport, and the Scott County Health Department. Vogel says the group is working to assess hunger needs in the Quad Cities and determine the best practices to save good food from being thrown away.

And one of the first steps is informing the community. Tomorrow, the Food Rescue Partnership will host a free workshop at the Quad Cities Food Hub in Davenport. Residents can hear from restaurant owners and organizations already working to reduce food waste, during two sessions at 10 am and 2 pm.
