East Locust Street Closed By Sinkholes

City of Davenport Public Works

Sinkholes will continue to block traffic on a busy street in Davenport, and detours could last as long as the middle of July.

The two sinkholes developed over the weekend on East Locust Street, between Woodland and Kenwood avenues.

The Public Works Department says so far the cause seems to be four broken sewer lines, and two water service lines. The city is working with homeowners affected by these broken lines, as it tries to fix them.

And drivers will need to be patient while repairs are made.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
