Davenport City Administrator, Corri Spiegel, discusses the city's flood fight in a three-page letter posted online yesterday. You can read it below or online HERE.

It includes praise for public works employees and updates about current flood protection and the study of last month's levee breach.

The city has also closed River Drive earlier than expected on Wednesday morning due to flash flooding and the rising Mississippi River. An updated flood detour map above (in the slide show) and HERE

The river in the Quad Cities is more than 4.6 feet above flood stage and forecast to crest 6 feet above flood stage on Saturday.

Today, a parks crew will continue cleaning areas on and near Duck Creek Trail. A flash flood inundated the bike path during a recent storm.

In addition, Davenport has asked the National Guard to help city staff monitor temporary levees and pumps near Blackhawk and Walnut Creeks in southwest Davenport, and the temporary flood barrier downtown. The city administrator's letter says public works employees have worked overtime 68 days in a row as of yesterday (May 29th).
