Rock Island County residents can get help paying their rent or mortgage. Today, Moline Township announced nearly $25,000 is available for Emergency Food and Shelter. The federal money will be distributed to residents of all the county's 18 townships.
Residents may apply for a one-time grant of up to 450 dollars if they can't make a rent or mortgage payment because of a financial emergency, such as a car or appliance repair.
Moline Township Supervisor Don Johnston says the emergency funding has helped hundreds of families over the years.
"It makes you feel wonderful. In the holiday season, of course with this cold weather, there's probably more emergencies than you'd normally have. It just makes you feel good all the way around to do this."
Rock Island County residents who apply need to show proof of their emergency.
Johnston says applications are usually approved within one to two weeks, and funding will be given on a first come, first served basis.
