The Handicapped Development Center in Davenport is celebrating its 50th anniversary. It will hold an open house Thursday afternoon.
Vice President of Resource Development Carol Foster says they will give tours to show people what happens at the center on a daily basis.
"We thought that it was time for us to open our doors and let the community in to give us an opportunity to not only thank them for the support they have provided us for 50 years, but also let them see what they've been supporting."
The HDC provides residential services, day programs, and work services to people with disabilities. Foster says many people don't know how much the center does for the community until they see it with their own eyes.
"When we bring them in for a tour, their comments are always that they didn't realize how much we did and they didn't realize how big our building is, and so we just want to invite everybody in."
The Handicapped Development Center's 50th anniversary celebration will be held from 2-7 p.m. on Thursday. It is located at 3402 Hickory Grove Road in Davenport.
