Trees for Troops Gives Back to Those Who Serve

FedEx

The Rock Island Arsenal is thanking members of the military this season with free Christmas trees. Starting today, live trees will be available to all active duty members, including the National Guard and Reserve. It's part of an annual project called "Trees for Troops."

Arsenal spokesman Chris Chambers says the trees are a way for the Arsenal to give back to those who serve. This year, up to 140 trees will be available through December 10th.

Trees for Troops is an international campaign organized by FedEx that delivers 18-thousand Christmas trees to 65 military bases each year.

The international goal is to reach 175,000 trees delivered since 2005. The Rock Island Arsenal will give out 130-140 trees this year.

The Rock Island Arsenal will also celebrate the holidays with a holiday tree lighting ceremony on Friday at 4 pm.
