Augustana College

The Augustana College men's basketball team has made it to the Division 3 Final Four. And Friday in Salem, Virginia, the Vikings take on Babson in the first semi-final. The Vikings made it to the Final Four, for the first time in 22 years, after defeating Mount Union and Marietta last weekend at Augustana's Carver Center. Dave Wrath, Assistant Athleticic Director, says more than 2,000 people showed up to each game.He says the strong community support and media coverage helps the team excel- both on and off the court.

Friday, the Augustana College men's basketball team could move one step closer to the Division 3 Final Four. The Vikings will host a sectional tournament.  On Friday, in game one, Marietta will play Saint Olaf. And in game two, the Vikings take on Mount Union. Augustana Head Coach Grey Giovanine says all four teams are ranked in the top 10 in the nation. But, the Vikings have an advantage because they're playing at home. 

Moline HS Special Olympics team advances

A high school basketball team from the Quad Cities has made it to the state tournament in just its first year of competition. The Moline Special Olympics basketball team will travel to Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal this weekend after winning the District Tournament in January.

The head football coach at Augustana College has resigned after six years on the job. Rob Cushman started as a defensive coordinator for the Vikings in 2008, and became head coach two years later.During Cushman's first season as head coach, the Vikings ended with 2 wins and 8 loses, but went 5 and 5 for the next three years. The football team finished in third this year in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.As head coach, Cushman also helped produce 5 Academic All-Americans, a National Football Foundation Scholar, and a Division 3 All-American.
