She kept women's soccer alive in the Quad Cities for 35 years, but now it's time to step down. On Oct. 26, the Quad City Women's Soccer League honored founder and director, Jan Luton, who is retiring.  Chris Cournoyer, who plays for a Bettendorf team, says Luton started the Soccer League in 1980 with other local women who were enthusiastic about the sport. Now, the league has teams across the Quad Cities, including some from community colleges and businesses. Cournoyer says Luton has played in and organized every season for the league.

For local hockey fans, the big day has finally arrived. The Quad City Mallards open the new season Friday night with a home game against Rapid City, at the I Wireless Center.
