More than 600 people are expected to spend Saturday morning, swimming, riding their bikes, and running for a total of more than 18 miles. The 16th annual Quad Cities Triathlon will be held at West Lake Park, on the western edge of Davenport. 

College Golfers to Play in Deere Classic

Three college golfers, and one amateur, will have a chance to compete against the pros next month.  Wednesday, the John Deere Classic awarded four sponsor exemptions to some of the nation's top young golfers, so they can play in this year's tournament. One is Bryson DeChambeau, from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

River Bandits to Join Midwest All-Star Game

Three Quad Cities River Bandits will play in this year's Midwest League All-Star Game- more than any other Western Division team. In addition, the team says one of its pitchers will be a reserve, for the June 23rd game in Peoria. River Bandits catcher, Jacob Nottingham, second baseman, Mott Hyde, and third baseman Nick Tanielu were selected by Western Division field managers to start in the game.

  The countdown has officially begun for the John Deere Classic, which will be held the first full week of next month. Monday morning, the tournament hosted media day for reporters, photographers, and others to learn about what's new this year.

Deere Classic Champ Back to Defend Title

After winning his first PGA tournament at the John Deere Classic, Brian Harman finally feels like he belongs among the pros. Monday morning, the defending champion talked about life on the road and the perks of winning, for Media Day at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis. He says the John Deere Classic will always be one of his favorites. 

Harman is the 20th golfer to win a PGA title for the first time at the Classic. The 28-year-old newly-wed from Georgia says being away from home has been hard, but he loves the work.

Augustana Senior Awarded NCAA Scholarship

An Augustana College athlete has won an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Senior David Voland will receive 75-hundred-dollars for excellence in both academics and athletics. In March, Voland led the men's track team to the NCAA Division Three national title, for the 4-by-400 relay. He has also won 11 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin titles throughout his career. And, he holds the school record for the fastest time in hurdles and two different relays. Last winter, Voland was named the NCAA Division Three Midwest Regional Athlete of the Year.

After 40 years, a successful coach at Augustana College is going to retire. Right after he graduated from Augustana in 1974, Fred Whiteside was hired to be an assistant coach for the men's cross country team.
