Davenport high schools will stay on a block schedule for at least one more year. That was Superintendent Art Tate's recommendation at last night's board meeting, and members went along with it. 


It's a rare sight on a Friday afternoon. A school library in Davenport is packed with third, fourth, and fifth grade boys. 

Over 2,000 high school students in the Quad Cities now have a chance to take more college-level classes. This week, the Moline school board decided to add eight advanced placement courses to the seven already offered at the high school.

Even though supporters thought they'd Run with Carl for the last time, the Labor Day race will continue next year. This morning, the Carl Schillig family announced the foundations that support Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley public schools will become the co-sponsors of the event. 

University of Dubuque

A new center will support student athletes and honor veterans. Today, the University of Dubuque held a dedication ceremony for its Veterans Memorial Training Center. 

After several months of talks, Black Hawk College may be close to signing a new contract with one of its unions. The college and faculty reached a tentative agreement Tuesday with help from a federal mediator.


Smaller classes in a new building should help keep some Davenport high school students on track to graduate. Today, the Davenport School District celebrated the opening of its new alternative school, Mid City High.

Another gift today for the Quad Cities from Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. One week after announcing low interest state loans for water and sewer projects, he came to town to announce help for the next phase of Western Illinois University's riverfront campus in Moline.

Hamilton School in Moline is getting a complete makeover -- name change included. The Moline School District is asking local residents to complete a survey about a new name for the elementary school that's currently under construction.

Students in the Quad Cities will soon have new opportunities for hands-on learning. Today the Nahant Marsh Education Center broke ground for an expansion of the center in southwest Davenport.
