Gov. Bruce Rauner amped up his anti-union rhetoric Tuesday at a speech in Decatur, a city with deep labor roots.  The Republican bemoaned prevailing wage  requirements on public projects for costing the state extra, said Project Labor Agreements are synonymous with "uncompetitive bidding" and introduced a plan to create local right-to-work zones.

A former US Senator and presidential candidate wants Republicans to re-brand their party. Today  in Davenport, Rick Santorum spoke to the Scott County Lincoln Club, as part of a five-day visit to Iowa.  Two years ago, Santorum won the Republican Iowa Caucuses. And, he's thinking about running for president again. Today, he talked about how things have changed since the 2012 election. 

He said his main goal is "to stand up for the little guy." And, prove average American workers can trust the Republican Party.

A non-profit group called Living and Driving While Black wants to hear from anyone in Davenport who believes their civil rights have been violated. The Oak Brook-based foundation will hold a meeting Saturday to discuss workplace discrimination, black-on-black crime, police brutality, and other issues.

Galesburg will continue helping its residents and businesses pay the lowest cost possible for electricity. This week, the city council chose Homefield Energy to be its power supplier. 

Rock Island County will continue to own its nursing home, but it'll be run by a professional manager, with a governing board of local residents. That was the decision Tuesday night by the county board after more than a year of discussion.

Moline is asking residents to be on the look-out for the largest pothole in the city. The annual "Pothole of the Month" contest started this month, and awards $50 giftcards to whom-ever reports the largest pothole.

A Taylor Ridge developer is asking the Rock Island City Council to annex and rezone land along Highway 92 near a city golf course. Tonight, aldermen are scheduled to consider the request from Raju Penmatcha who has worked with Rock Island on other projects in the past.

The Rock Island County board may soon decide what to do with the county nursing home. Last week, board members discussed four options for the Hope Creek Care Center in East Moline, and a vote is possible Tuesday night.
