City of Davenport

The demand for public housing in Davenport far outstrips the supply. The city has announced it will stop accepting applications for its public housing and Section 8 programs at the end of this month.

Rock Island Arson Arrest

Nearly one month after a fire severely damaged several buildings in downtown Rock Island, police have made an arrest. 34 year old Jason Anderson of Rock Island was taken into custody this morning, and is charged with two counts of arson.

Residents of East Moline might pay higher property taxes next year. Tonight, the city council will consider raising tax rates for water and sewage maintenance, and garbage service.

Officer Involved Shooting

Four Davenport police officers have been cleared of any wrongdoing after they shot and killed a man last month. That was the announcement this afternoon from Scott County Attorney Mike Walton.

The long nightmare for local motorists will soon be over. Today, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced the Centennial Bridge will re-open on Sunday (10/19).

Rock Island

Residents of Rock Island can help plan the future of their downtown. Tuesday night the city will hold a public meeting to help a consultant study how to revitalize the area from 13th to 24th Streets, and between the river and 5th Avenue.

Illinois Department of Transportation

Even though the project is at least several years away, plans are in the works to re-build and widen a historic highway in northwestern Illinois. Thursday the Illinois Department of Transportation will hold an open house to talk about US 30 in Whiteside County - from Fulton to Morrison.

One of the biggest challenges facing the US today is the growing gap between rich and poor. That was one of the messages Saturday from Vermont US Senator Bernie Sanders to a town hall meeting in Davenport.

Department of Defense

A top federal official will visit the Quad Cities tomorrow to discuss the future of the Rock Island Arsenal. Secretary of the Army, John McHugh, will visit the island and tour the Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, then meet privately with local officials, plus Illinois U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, 17th district Congresswoman, Cheri Bustos, and lieutenant governor, Sheila Simon. 

Scott County Sheriff's Department

After nearly three decades, the Scott County Sheriff's Department will lose one of its leaders. Chief deputy, Major Michael Brown, has announced he'll retire at the end of this week.
