The all-day event, hosted by the Quad Cities Storm at the Vibrant Arena, welcomed people to paint names on the ice.
John Dawson, the owner of the Storm and a veteran himself, says this is the 4th annual Salute to Military Ice Painting since 2018, minus a year off for the pandemic when the Storm didn't play.
"We want to recognize people's service in a positive fashion, and to show the community how many people have served, and give them a graphic representation of how the community remembers and cares."
Dawson says the purpose of the ice painting is to show the community the number of people who served in the armed forces.

On the ice Monday was Lisa Coleman from Rock Island. She says her husband is now wheelchair bound with Parkinson's Disease from drinking bad water while on his tour.
"My husbands on top, I can't bring him obviously on here- his brother Paul Coleman, his son Chris, his brother Bob, his step-dad Ira, my dad William Van Speybroeck, and then I am going to be putting my daughter-in-law and my brother also."
The Storm also hosts an ice painting in February for cancer.
The "Salute to Military" names will be on the ice for the games this week.
