Deere Second Quarter Results Preview

Despite some weakness in agriculture and construction, analysts are bullish on John Deere ahead of Friday's 2nd quarter earnings report.

Yahoo Finance reports the average estimate for earnings per share is $8.59, up 26 per cent from a year ago. And their revenue estimate for the company is a 23 per cent increase over total sales at this time last year.

The most recent Ag Economy Barometer, reported by Brownfield Ag News, showed three quarters of farmers say it's a bad time to make large investments. They blame rising interest rates and higher prices for equipment.

The latest monthly report from the Association of Equipment Manufacturers shows combine sales in the US are up 72 per cent so far this year, but tractor sales are down 16 per cent.

And Engineering News reports international construction is predicted to rise just eight-tenths of one per cent this year, following increases of 2 per cent last year and 3.8 per cent the year before that.

Deere shares are currently trading around $367, near the mid-point of their 52-week range (448-283)
