Iowa Democrats are dealing with a series of election losses, and the national party's decision to remove Iowa's "first-in-the-nation" status in nominating a presidential candidate.
Hart is a former state senator who lost a 2020 US House race by just a handful of votes. On Saturday, Democrats chose her over two other candidates. She's focused on helping the party's candidates win elections.
The Democrat from Wheatland says the party has formed a steering committee which will begin working to develop a winning strategy right away. She has always focused on rural areas and says that will continue.

Hart will also lead the Iowa Democratic Party as it decides how to respond to the national party's decision to put the South Carolina primary ahead of Iowa's caucuses on the presidential election calendar.
She says the state party will follow Iowa law and work with the Iowa GOP to address that issue. State law requires the caucuses to be held at least eight days before any other presidential nominating contest.
If the state party doesn't go along with the national party's decision, Iowa Democrats will run the risk that its delegates will not count toward the national nominating total.
