Holst, Davis, and Hancock performing a hand and machine recount of absentee ballots

On Tuesday and Wednesday, a three-member election board is counting absentee ballots in Scott County.

Republican Luana Stoltenberg, from Iowa’s 81st House District called for the recount. She ran against Democrat Craig Cooper.

"My opponent actually asked for a recount, which I probably would have done in the same circumstance, because I was up by 6 votes. That's obviously not very many when you are talking about more than 5,000 votes.”

Former Scott County Attorney Bill Davis is representing Cooper on the election board, and Stoltenberg chose Diane Holst, former Scott County Supervisor. The candidates both agreed on Jim Hancock, another former supervisor, as the third member of the board.

On Thursday, the candidate recount will move to the county warehouse in Eldridge that is used to store voting machines to count the regular ballots in 81st House District.
