Partners in Job Training

August  23, 2013

A regional program to help people find jobs has moved. Today Partners in Job Training and Placement held a ribbon cutting at its new location in the former Farmall Plant office building in Rock Island - it had been located in a strip mall near Southpark in Moline.

The agency serves Rock Island, Henry, and Mercer Counties. And office supervisor Cathy Bizarri says their clients range from recent high school graduates looking for their first job, to those hoping to re-enter the workforce after a long time away.

"We try to take each person and figure out what's going to help them the most. Maybe they don't have a resume, maybe they just lost their job and don't know what to do."

She and her staff help people write resumes, learn how to use computers, and look for training programs.

Partners in Job Training also holds what Bizarri calls "hiring events" where employers come to the office to interview potential employees.  Recently Quad City Family Entertainment talked with 100 people, and hired 12.

"That doesn't sound like much but it was good for the company because they could come to one place and see that many people. Having them all come individually would have taken up a lot of staff time. But if they could see 80 at a time they could make a decision much more quickly."

Bizarri also sends out an email "blast" each week to 800 people, listing available jobs in this area.

During the second quarter, April through June, the office recorded more than 1,000 visits, including 200 people who came in for the first time.
