New QC Flights to Florida
July 30, 2013
Allegiant Airlines is expanding its service to the Quad City Airport, again. Today it announced in November it will begin offering flights between here and Punta Gorda, in southwest Florida. Director of Aviation, Bruce Carter, says the new destination is located on the gulf coast of Florida, between Sarasota and Fort Meyers.
"There's many people from this region, eastern Iowa and western Illinois, who have winter places in Naples, Sanibel Island, Punta Gorda, and Fort Myers. It's one of those destinations that's a nice vacation spot for the winter. A lot of people go down in November and come back in March."
Allegiant will offer round trips, on Mondays and Fridays, and Carter says that will make it easy for travelers to spend a weekend, or a week, or longer, in Florida.
"It's a top ten destination - it's one people really want to get to. People would fly into Orlando or Tampa, rent a car, and then drive. But now it's going to be so convenient."
Allegiant first came to the Quad Cities in the fall of 2010, with flights to Las Vegas, then added flights to Mesa Arizona, Orlando, and Saint Petersburg.
Also today, the airline announced in December it will begin flying between Punta Gorda, and both Des Moines and Cedar Rapids.
