Kickoff for 39th Annual Bix 7
March 14, 2013
A new feature will be added to this summer's Bix 7 in the Quad Cities. The 39th annual race will include the Premier Buick and GMC High School Challenge. Race spokesman, Glenn Kass, says it's another part of the effort by organizers to encourage local residents to compete.
"A new line will be added to the application which will ask for boy and girl athletes to list their high school affiliation. And the first boy and girl runners across from high schools - those high schools' athletic funds will receive a $1,000 donation."
Like the dealers who are sponsoring it, Kass says the donations in the names of the winning boy AND girl can go to schools in either Iowa or Illinois. Still to be worked out is how the high school runners in the Bix 7 will be identified during the race - maybe with different colored numbers.
As Kass says, "At 39, the Quad City Times Bix 7 has found a new way to stay young."
