Heat Wave Almost Over

July  18, 2013

Forecasters say the current heat wave is supposed to last until the end of the work week. Temperatures will remain in the low 90's until Saturday.

Dan Ferry, a meteorologist with the Quad Cities office of the National Weather Service, says the high humidity makes it feel much warmer. "That's going to make it feel more like it's in the 100 to 105 range during the middle of the day, the max heating, during the afternoon and early evening. Which is going to cause some dangerous conditions as far as the heat is concerned," he says.

The humidity should decrease by Saturday, when temperatures drop to the low 80's. Ferry says so far, this week's heat is not as bad as last summer, when temperatures reached 100.

The Southwest and East coast are also currently experiencing excessive heat.
