Harrison Lofts Grand Opening
December 05, 2013
About a month after some new apartments opened in Davenport, they're three-quarters occupied already, and should reach 100 per cent by the end of the year. A ceremony will be held this afternoon to celebrate the completion of the Harrison Lofts, in the 14-hundred block of Harrison Street.
Scott Tunnicliff, director of the Hilltop Campus Village, which includes the new apartments, says the 8.3 million dollar project was built by Sherman Associates, from Minneapolis.
"It's been in the this type of work for over 30 years. Of note to us is they own about 6,000 units and also that they have never re-sold any of them. They manage their own - it's a point of pride."
The Harrison Lofts feature commercial space and a fitness center, and 60 apartments, from studio to three-bedrooms.
And Tunnicliff says this will help re-develop the whole "corridor."
"Harrison and Brady streets used to be lined with multi-story, mixed-use buildings all the way from Locust to 12th, and even beyond. Having a vacancy of that visibility was a major detriment in terms of people looking at an area they wanted to do re-investment in."
He says without the participation of Sherman Associates, this block of Harrison Street in the Hilltop Campus Village might not have been re-developed for several more years. The site formerly was used for parking, and had a building that was destroyed in an arson fire several years ago.
