Genesis Opens Its New HealthPlex
November 04, 2013
After one year of construction, a former landfill in Moline has been transformed into a medical campus. Today Genesis Health System will formally open the Genesis HealthPlex-Moline, on 41st Street near 26th Avenue.
One of the people who'll be based in the new building is Doctor John Golden - he calls it "a one-stop wellness destination."
""The focus of the health-plex is to have a local site where we have a number of primary care physicians available for people but also to supply the supportive services that they need for overall health maintenance and wellness."
Along with the primary doctors, he says the Health-Plex will include some additional services, including x-rays, a pharmacy, and several doctor-specialists.
"That makes it easier for me, knowing I'll be able to send them right down the hall to get laboratory testing for instance, or x-ray services. I'll get the results back that much more efficiently. So I think it'll increase the efficiency of care and I think it's also going to decrease the care that's lost because of inconvenience."
The new, two-story building covers 52,000 square feet, and is the first phase in development of the medical campus. Construction began last December on the 42-acre site, and Genesis officials stressed the central location in Moline for residents of Rock Island County. The city of Moline helped by creating a tax increment financing district for the new complex.
