Genesis Medical Park - Moline
December 06, 2012
Just two days after the city agreed to help, Genesis Health System has started building its new medical office complex in Moline. This morning, officials of Genesis and the city planted a tree, instead of holding a traditional ground breaking ceremony. Genesis Medical Park-Moline will be located along 41st Street, near the library, and eventually use about 36 acres of the 42 owned by the health system. President and CEO Doug Cropper says the project is an example of some of the major changes occurring in health care.
"People are going to be cared for more in the future in medical parks like this and out-patient settings rather than being hospitalized. For us as Genesis Health System, this helps us prepare for that kind of transition."
And this change will require Genesis to hire more primary care physicians, specialists, and other health care workers.
"Not only will this be a great facility for people to get care, it will also be an attractive facility for us to be able to recruit top-notch professionals to come to a centralized location to provide care."
Cropper emphasized the convenience of this central location, in Moline, for residents of Rock Island County. Tuesday night, the Moline city council approved the creation of a tif district to help finance the new office complex. The first building could be completed one year from now, or early in 20-14.
