Funeral For MIA From Clinton

April  07, 2014

More than 70 years after he died, a funeral will be held next weekend for a Clinton man.

Louis Longman was 26 years old in 1944 when his fighter plane went down returning from a mission in the South Pacific during World War II. Longman was officially declared dead in 1946, but his remains were not recovered until 2007, and not identified until four years later.

According to the Iowa National Guard, Longman graduated from Saint Mary's HIgh School in Clinton in 1936, and enlisted in the Army in 1942. After receiving his pilot's wings, he was assigned to a figher squadron in the Pacific theater. His plane went down during severe weather over New Guinea in April 1944.

A memorial service and interment will be held Saturday (4/12) at the National Cemetery on Arsenal Island.
