Friendship Place Groundbreaking

September  17, 2013

A major expansion is underway at Friendship Manor in Rock Island. Today officials of the retirement community broke ground for Friendship Place - a group of 13 "villa homes."

President and CEO, Ted Pappas, says construction has just started, but all 13 are already rented.

"A place where seniors can live independent - they can live in a place much like their own home, where they can enjoy having their own pets, and enjoy walking on their own street."

Pappas credits John Califf of Rock Island, a member of the Development Committee who died last spring, with first suggesting that Friendship Manor build these villas.

"Obviously we had to do our due diligence and we had to do our market studeis and we had to do all the things a good business would do before you get to this point. But it was really John's inspiration that started us down this path."

The new villas are located along 12th Street in Rock Island, just across 21st Avenue from Frienship Manor.  Completion is expected next spring.
