First Army Change of Command

March  14, 2013

From the Quad Cities to Baghdad - that's the trip that'll begin today for Lieutenant General Mick Bednarek, commanding general of the First Army on Arsenal Island. At a ceremony this afternoon, he will formally relinquish command, and begin preparing for his next assignment. He volunteered to be the next chief of the Office of Security Cooperation in Baghdad.

He expects to spend about a month in Washington D.C. preparing for his new posting, before travelling to Iraq.

Bednarek says he, and the leaders of the other commands on Arsenal Island, have told  their bosses in the Army and Defense Department many times how important they think this installation is.

The ceremony begins at 2 pm in Building 299. His interim replacement leading First Army will be Major General Kevin Wendel.
