Deere Honored for Innovation

December  04, 2012

When it comes to innovation, John Deere is one of the best in the world. The Quad Cities based company is included on this year's list of Top 100 Global Innovators, as chosen by Thomson Reuters.
Each year, Thomson Reuters compiles the list based on patents - overall volume, the rate of patents granted versus those applied for, the "global reach" of a company's patents, and how often its patents are used by others.
Thomson Reuters says Deere and the other innovative companies "created additional jobs, performed better in revenue, and invested more in research and development in the past year, compared to other companies."
As examples of its recent innovations, Deere cites two hybrid electric wheel loaders, the 7760 Cotton Picker that harvests AND packages the cotton, and the 6RE Tractor - it has a 20 kilowatt generator to power and control implements.
Other members of this year's Top 100 Global Innovators range from 3-M, Apple, and AT & T, to Google, Ford, and Nike.
