Davenport Citi High
April 01, 2014
A new opportunity for students in the Davenport schools will open in the fall. Tuesday night the district will hold an information meeting for prospective students and their families on Citi High - citi stands for Career Institute of Technology and Innovation.
Director of curriculum, Julie Staszewski, says Citi High will allow students to focus on six different concentrations in addition to regular graduation requirements. The areas are advanced manufacturing, business, computer science, design and engineering, education, and health science.
"So if a student has a passion in any of those areas, they may choose to be part of that academy and then they'll have concentrated courses that will lead them into many opportunitites including job shadows, internships, and college and career connections."
Staszewski says the district already has several academies, and their success inspired the new academies - welding opened 30 years ago, engineering is now in its 7th year, and a business academy opened 9 years ago. Citi High students will attend classes at West High School.
The information meeting Tuesday night begins at 7 pm, in the West High School auditorium.
