Clinton Lumber Kings Star in Commercials

When a northwestern Illinois company wanted to promote a new line of men's grooming products, it decided to use some "everyday guys" instead of professional models. And 50 miles away in eastern Iowa it found those "guys" - members of the Clinton Lumber Kings minor league baseball team.
Wahl Clipper is based in Sterling and is a long-time sponsor of the class-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners. Director of marketing, Steve Yde, says the focus of the campaign is that we all have dreams.
"One of the dreams we identified which is very local to us here is the Clinton Lumber Kings. These are a bunch of kids who have a dream to be a major league baseball player. And you can only become a major league player with hard work, dedication, and desire. And we thought that fit close to our philosophy here at Wahl."
The un-scripted 15 and 30 second commercials are now running on several male-oriented television channels, including ESPN, Speed, HIstory, and Discovery.
A third-generation family owned company, Wahl employs more than 800 people in Sterling, making a variety of men's and women's grooming products, plus clippers for dog grooming and even sheep shearing. It also has five more manufacturing plants around the world.
