Churches United New Executive Director

March  03, 2014

Churches United didn't have to look far to find its new executive director. Today the board of directors announced the choice of Anne Wachal, who had served as acting executive director for the past year. Wachal took over after Ron Quay died. She joined the organization in 1999, and has served as program manager and associate director since then.

She says her goals in the coming months include working on short- and long-term strategic planning, and raising money.

"Because I want to insure that Churches United is going to be financially stable. In this day and age of ecumenical organizations and interfaith organizations struggling, that's certainly foremost in my mind. "

She also hopes to continue providing a range of services to the Quad Cities, including the Winnie's Place shelter for women, and hunger programs. Churches United currently has two full-time and two part-time employees, and relies on volunteers for much of its work.

Founded 53 years ago, Churches United is a cooperative association of more than 130 churches, representing 20 Christian Faith traditions in the Quad Cities area.
