Audubon School Update

December  17, 2013

With demolition underway, The Rock Island school board has raised the asking price for the site of the Audubon School. Originally the price for the school on 18th Avenue was 560,000 dollars, but yesterday the board raised the price to 749,000 dollars. District sopkeswoman, Holly Sparkman, says the board listened to the advice of its realtor, NAI Ruhl and Ruhl Commercial.

"The property value would be higher without the building. A little more than 3 acres of property along a business thoroughfare. So they felt that at about $6 a square foot, it was within range with other properties in the Quad Cities."

Also yesterday the board extended its contract with Ruhl and Ruhl Commercial for four months, to April 30th.

Sparkman says sometime soon the demolition crew will make bricks available from Audubon School for anyone that wants one.  This fall the school board decided to demolish the school instead of continuing to pay for maintenance, security, and to install a new boiler.
