ACA Signup Help
October 23, 2013
A group of hospitals and agencies have joined forces to help residents of the Quad Cities sign up for health care. They've put information online, and will make counselors available at a variety of locations in the coming months.
Nita Ludwig, from the Rock Island County Health Department, says they got together to coordinate efforts to help people enroll, under the Affordable Care Act.
"In public health we certainly appreciate the need for preventative health care. And these health insurance plans and the expansion of Medicaid provide more services for people and especially prevention services such as well-child checks, annual physicals, and immunizations."
Along with the health department, the group includes Genesis and Trinity health systems, Project Now, Community Health Care, the Iowa Illinois Center for Independent Living, and Casa Quad Cities.
"We can certainly help them enroll. And in Illinois the expanded Medicaid site, called ABE - it works fine and we've had no problems. It's only the website for the health insurance marketplace sometimes works and sometimes has problems."
Ludwig says anyone interested in getting information, and enrolling under the Affordable Care Act, should go to the group members' websites. The Rock Island County Health Department has counselors available Monday through Friday to answer questions and help people enroll.
