2014 QC Marathon Preview

May  23, 2014

There will be a limit on the number of runners in this year's Quad Cities Marathon. That was one of the announcements Thursday night during the annual preview party.  Founder and race director, Joe Moreno, says 6,000 people competed in all of the events last year, and that'll be the maximum number accepted for this year.

"We always say we could have more if we wanted to, but our course isn't suitable for many more than that because there's a few miles that we run on the bike path."

As in past years, the Marathon will include an actual marathon of 26 miles, plus a half marathon, 5-k, relay, and walk.

Also last night Moreno unveiled the Quad City Challenge.

"There's three races, and if you participate in all three you'll be eligible for a gold, four-inch coaster rather than a finisher's medal that everybody puts in a drawer somehwere. This is going to be a practical, usable coaster with the three logos of the races."

The three races include the Firecracker Run on July 4th, the Freedom Run on August 7th, and the Quad Cities Marathon set for September 28th.

As in past years, the 17th annual marathon will start and finish in downtown Moline. The other two start and finish in East Moline.
