The Mississippi River is only expected to reach flood stage in the Quad Cities this week, but downstream some areas are bracing for what could be major flooding. And climate change could be a factor.

Thanks to weekend storms, the Mississippi River and other rivers in this area are rising.

The Mississippi River is rising, and will hold at, or near, flood stage through the weekend.

State and federal agencies will celebrate their efforts to balance the needs of wildlife and navigation. Thursday morning, the Corps of Engineers hosted a ribbon cutting for the Lake Odessa Habitat Rehabilitation and Enhancement Project, which is located in the Port Louisa National Wildlife Refuge near Wapello, Iowa.

The chances for minor flooding by the Mississippi River have gone way up, but the probability of moderate flooding has held steady. Thursday the National Weather Service released its second flood outlook for this spring.
