Women's Equality Day Celebration Returning To QC

A group of local women will celebrate their right to vote. This weekend, two dozen female candidates and officeholders will attend a meet-and-greet in Rock Island to commemorate Women’s Equality Day.

Leslie DuPree, with the Quad Cities chapter of the National Organization of Women, helped organize it.

"99 years ago, there weren't women running for office, because women couldn't vote. So we want a day to talk about how far we've come, how far we we'd like to go, and also celebrate where we are, which is that we do have a lot of great candidates to talk about."

This will be the first Women’s Equality Day meet-and-greet in the Quad Cities in over a decade. And DuPree says what makes it unique is it features women from both sides of the river, and from both sides of the political spectrum.

"We have so many really great female candidates on both sides of the aisle. And we wanted a way to get them out in front of people, for people to meet them, talk to them, and feel a little bit of that energy."

The Women’s Equality Day Celebration will be held on Sunday from 2-4 PM at the Quad City Botanical Center in Rock Island.
